PDHPE at The Hills Sports High School supports students to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead healthy, active and connected lives.
Through practical and classroom learning, students explore wellbeing, respectful relationships, movement, safety, leadership and lifelong participation in physical activity.
Stage 4
Stage 4 PDHPE supports students to build the knowledge, skills and confidence to make positive decisions about their health, wellbeing, relationships and physical activity.
Students explore topics such as personal identity, respectful relationships, safety, help-seeking, physical activity, movement skills, teamwork and decision-making. Practical lessons provide opportunities for students to develop confidence, cooperation, resilience and enjoyment of movement.

Stage 5
Stage 5 PDHPE builds on students’ understanding of health, wellbeing, relationships and movement. Students explore the factors that influence choices, behaviour and lifelong health, while continuing to develop confidence and skill in a range of physical activity contexts.
Students investigate topics such as mental health, respectful relationships, risk-taking, safety, nutrition, fitness, movement performance, community health and positive decision-making. Practical lessons support students to refine movement skills, apply strategies, work collaboratively and develop leadership.

Stage 5 PASS is an elective course for students who enjoy sport, physical activity, coaching, movement, fitness and learning about the body in action.
PASS gives students the opportunity to explore physical activity from a practical and theoretical perspective. Students learn about movement performance, body systems, coaching, fitness, sport safety, event organisation, participation and the role of physical activity in Australian society.
This course is ideal for students who enjoy active learning and want to develop their skills, knowledge and leadership in sport and physical activity settings.

Stage 5 Child Studies is an elective course for students who are interested in children, families, wellbeing, development, caring roles and early childhood learning.
Students explore the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and cultural development of children from pre-conception through to school age. They investigate the factors that influence a child’s growth and wellbeing, including family, health, safety, nutrition, play, education and community support.
This course combines theory with practical and creative learning experiences, helping students better understand the needs of children and the important role adults, families and communities play in supporting healthy development.

Stage 6
In Year 11 and 12, courses available include:
HMS is for students that are interested in sport performance and also community health. Students will understand how to improve athletic performance and build the performance of other. Students will also learn about ways that community health can be enhanced.
It is a 2 unit board endorsed ATAR course with a 3 hour HSC exam.
Community and Family Studies explores the ways individuals, families and communities manage change, meet needs and support wellbeing.
Students investigate real-world issues affecting young people, families and groups in society. They develop skills in research, communication, critical thinking, decision-making and social analysis.
This course encourages students to think deeply about relationships, responsibilities, wellbeing, parenting, caring, community support and the factors that influence people’s lives.

SLR has a large practical based component. It is for students that are interested in obtaining qualifications such as a variety of coaching qualifications.
It is a 2 unit content endorsed Non-ATAR course.
VET Sports Coaching - Certificate III Sports Coaching
This is a Board endorsed course.
Completion will see students achieve a qualification - Certificate III - Sports Coaching.
Certificate III in Sports Coaching
VET Sports Coaching gives students the opportunity to develop practical skills and knowledge in coaching, sport leadership, communication, teamwork and athlete development.
This is a Board Endorsed Course. Students who successfully complete the course will achieve a nationally recognised qualification: Certificate III in Sports Coaching.
Students learn how to plan and deliver coaching sessions, support safe participation in sport, communicate effectively with athletes and groups, and develop leadership skills that can be used in school, community and sporting environments.
