Overview
The Hills Sports High School’s Talented Sports Program (TSP) provide student-athletes with the opportunity to pursue excellence in both sport and education. Entry into the program is selective and competitive, designed to identify students who demonstrate strong sporting ability, commitment to learning, and alignment with our school values.
Our goal is to provide a pathway that nurtures student-athletes to reach their potential, not only as competitors but as individuals who embody respect, responsibility, resilience and sportsmanship.
Step 1: Expression of Interest
All prospective student-athletes must complete an Application form, available through our school website or the NSW Department of Education portal.
The application allows applicants to outline their sporting background, representative experience, achievements, and training history. Applicants may also nominate multiple sports for consideration if applicable.
Step 2: Supporting Documentation
Along with the Application, applicants are required to submit:
- Their two most recent school reports
- A sporting resume or list of achievements, highlighting representative level (zone, regional, state, national, or international participation)
- A reference or endorsement from their current coach, association, or governing sporting body
- Any relevant documentation from the sport’s State Sporting Organisation (SSO) or National Sporting Organisation (NSO)
These documents help the school assess both the student’s athletic potential and academic application.
Step 3: Trial and Assessment
Once applications are received, eligible students will be invited to attend a TSP Selection Trial.
Each sport conducts its own trial, managed by our Head Coaches, Director of Sport, Mentors and School Coaching Staff.
During the trial, selectors assess:
- Technical and tactical ability
- Athleticism and fitness
- Coachability and attitude
- Commitment and teamwork
- Potential for future development
For niche sports or those covered under the TSP Academy, external assessments and coach endorsements may be used instead of a practical trial.
Step 4: Review and Selection
Following the trial process, the school’s Academic Review Selection Panel, consisting of the School's Prinicpals, Deputy Principals, Head Teachers and the Director of Sport review each applicant.
Selection is based on:
- Academic effort and behaviour
- Alignment with the school’s values
- Commitment and Application to training, learning, and personal development
- Demonstrated sporting ability and potential
Successful applicants are then formally invited to join the Talented Sports Program.
Step 5: Acceptance and Enrolment
Parents and guardians of successful applicants will receive an official Offer of Placement via email. Once accepted, the student will be formally enrolled into their allocated Talented Sports Program (TSP) and integrated into the broader school community, gaining access to the school’s academic, athletic, and wellbeing support systems.
Applicants who are unsuccessful at any stage of the process will be notified promptly via email. Feedback outlining the reasons for non-selection can be provided upon request. We encourage all students to continue developing their skills and to reapply in future intakes once further progress has been made.
Step 6: Ongoing Review
All TSP and TSP Academy students are reviewed annually to ensure they continue to meet the standards of the program.
Ongoing eligibility is based on:
- Consistent attendance and effort
- Positive behaviour and attitude
- Continued sporting development and commitment
Students are expected to represent the school with pride, maintain academic progress, and display leadership both on and off the field.
