Netball at The Hills Sports High School is one of our most prestigious and well-established Talented Sports Programs. With a legacy of high achievement and a culture of excellence, our Netball program continues to inspire, develop, and launch the next generation of elite athletes.
The program is proudly supported through a partnership with Netball NSW and is led by two of the most experienced and respected figures in the game—Paige Hadley and Natalie Avellino, who bring world-class expertise, elite-level mentorship, and a genuine passion for student-athlete success.

🌟 Meet the Coaches
Natalie Avellino- Hills SHS Head Coach & International Mentor
Joining the coaching staff is the highly accomplished Natalie Avellino, whose extensive coaching resume spans New Zealand, Australia, and the international stage.
Natalie’s journey began in Invercargill, New Zealand, where she led Southland Girls’ High School to National Secondary School Championships and coached both the Southland Men’s and Women’s teams at the National Championships. Her career highlights include:
- Assistant Coach of the Southern Steel (ANZ Championship)
- Assistant Coach for the New Zealand Secondary Schools
- Technical Advisor to Samoa Netball
- Assistant Coach with the NSW Swifts
- Australian Fast5 National Team Coaching Staff
Natalie is known not only for her tactical nous but for her holistic coaching philosophy, working closely with strength and conditioning coaches, nutritionists, mental skills experts, and wellbeing officers to shape well-rounded, high-performing athletes.
Her ability to connect with school-aged players and develop them into national-level talents makes her a cornerstone of our program.
Paige Hadley – High Performance Coach, Australian Diamond and NSW Swifts representative
Paige Hadley is more than just a Netball icon—she is a role model, mentor, and fierce advocate for athlete development. As a Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Australian Diamonds representative, and long-time star of the NSW Swifts, Paige brings a level of experience and leadership that is unmatched in youth development programs.
Her presence at The Hills Sports High School bridges the gap between professional sport and high-performance school environments. Paige is passionate about empowering young athletes—particularly young women—to chase their goals with purpose, confidence, and discipline.
Under her guidance, our athletes benefit from elite-level drills, insights into the professional pathway, and the kind of competitive mindset required to succeed at the highest level.
Mo'onia Gerrard – High Performance Coach & Defensive Specialist
NSW Swifts legend and former Australian Diamond, Mo'onia Gerrard, brings her athleticism, defensive intelligence, and uncompromising competitiveness to The Hills Sports High School. Mo'onia has built an elite playing career through resilience, discipline, and an exceptional ability to read the game, qualities that she now brings into her coaching.
Her playing career highlights:
- Defensive powerhouse for the NSW Swifts and Adelaide Thunderbirds (2004-2011)
- Represented the Australian Diamonds in 68 Test matches, leading the team to two Netball World Cup victories in 2007 and 2011
- Awarded 2010 Australian International Player of the Year
- Awarded 2016 Order of Australia Medal in recognition of her service to netball and to the community
- Represented Tonga in their historic first appearance at the Netball World Cup in 2023
Mo'onia's extensive coaching experience in Australia, the United States, and England includes:
- Coach of the Severn Stars (English Superleague)
- Coach for Premier League Eastwood
- Netball Australia Athlete Director
- Founder of the Mo’onia Gerrard Cup and active involvement in the Oceania region.
Her ability to connect and communicate with school-aged players from diverse backgrounds is pivotal for the success of our rising student-athletes.
